Author's Note
Index
This is a series of essays, many of
which are biographical, that tell just
what my life in Christ has taught me.
If you really are intent on making it to
heaven, this can help. If you are look-
ing for an easier, more comfortable, richer,
way to heaven then skip this; it won't help.
If you are interested in truth, regardless of
the ramifications, read This I Have Learned.
If you have already predetermined what the
truth must be then skip this; you won't like
it!
If you are interested in what a preacher has
to say who quit college, where he was a
Bible major, three and one half months
before he was to get his degree, then by
all means read this.
If you are interested in what a preacher has
to say, who had a unanimous vote of
confidence of the people in the pews, but
was required to resign by his superiors in the
denomination, then read this.
If you want to know what a preacher, who
was told "to set down and shut up and you
might learn something" at a Wesleyan
convention, has to say, then read This I Have
Learned.
If you are interested in what a preacher has to
say, who was told to leave that convention by
all who were there, except the chairman, then
you should like This I Have Learned. Oh, by
the way, I left.
If you want to read what a preacher, who has
been a financial failure for most of his life, has
to say then read this book.
You might think, from what I have written here,
that I don't want to sell books, and make money,
but you are wrong. I want everybody who is
interested in spiritual help and/or encouragement
to read this. As for selling the book, I need to,
just ask my creditors.
Whatever else This I Have Learned may be, it is
a book of victory. Victory over sin and all the
wiles of Satan and all by the grace of God.
Happy reading.
Jim Caniff, the grandson of Camp Meeting Bill and
SundaySchool Ellie, is an ordained minister who has
written two previous books The Synagogue of Satan
and An Indictment. He has pastored in Indiana
and Kentucky and held revival meetings over a large
segment of the country. In his youth he was an over
the road trucker. In business he has been a painting
contractor, was an installer and repairman for large
revolving tray ovens, and worked as a licensed
private detective. He spent four years in the US
Air Force where he was a control tower operator
and spent a year in Korea and a year in Japan as
such. He received his formal education at Vincennes
University, Edison College, and Asbury College. He
is a widower and the father of two adult sons, David
and Stephen. Jim resides in Salem, Indiana where
his son, Stephen is a pastor of a local church, and
his son David, works at a major wood-working
facility.

No pain, no gain...Through vibrant, often poignant, often bare bones meticulous, but always deeply stirring vignettes, this gentleman preacher distills for us readers lessons given him by the unction of the Holy Spirit and a mind that dug deeply into the writings of the theological and secular giants of history for answers. These are candid lessons of a man's journey starting from boyhood, traveling into questioning reckless youth, and turning from that to an adulthood in Christ and the ministry. The lessons are strong and sound, but only fully realized years and years after they were taught. That's life for you, though. Many of us stroll through life tragically unaware of the vast opportunities we are given to learn the Truth offered to us by a beckoning Christ. Maybe we even deliberately ignore these opportunities, because it takes us out of our corporate, family or egoistic comfort zones. Can we overcome our own raw emotions when our spoon-fed views of the world are challenged? We should all snap up this book and pass it on to others as a chance for them to experience vicariously the raw, real world of a man on an analytical, yet Spirit-led path and crane our ears toward the whisper of Truth over the din of the day. This I Have Learned deserves a gentle read with an eye trained on the horizon.
Sturdy cover.
Excellent references and citations.
Humorous and engaging.
Advanced theological classes would greatly benefit from this book as reading material for study and discussion.

This I Have Learned edition by James B Caniff SelfHelp eBooks Reviews
I found this book to be a very enjoyable read. It is lighthearted in places; it is serious in places; and it just might prompt you to rethink some of the preconceived ideas that we all carry around.
This I Have Learned is an honest journal of describing obstacles overcome by this man of God as he aspired to the ministry. What he learned is outlined in these pages and will bnefit all who seek the path to a Christian life and a career in teaching other believers.
I have been blessed in knowing this man for many years. In additon to being a fine pastor I have found him to be one of America's great advocates for liberty.
You need this book, read it and benefit from what Jim learned the hard way on his upward path.
